Fooding Night

Lots more food pictures coming up below. You are warned :)

Yesterday a couple of friends and I decided to have a cooking day. Every dish (except for one) had this one ingredient in there...BACON :D

We had a nice spinach salad with sauteed onions, crispy bacon bits, mandarin oranges, and a poppy seed vinaigrette.

To accompany our main dish, we had baked scallop potatoes with a creamy sauce and sprinkled with bacon bits on top.

Our main dish was a delicious baked salmon seasoned with dill, lemon, and ground black pepper then topped off with a tangy hollandaise sauce.

For our dessert, we had brownies with bacon bits inside! Despite the "odd" sounding combination, they blend together so tastefully. Especially when it is matched up with a light green tea vanilla ice cream.

Our meal was accompanied by a nice red wine. I'm not a fan of wines but this one I could take (though being the light drinker I am, I had to lie down on a couch for a little bit after I was done with my glass).

Daisy

While waiting for Vic to come home, his neighbour welcomed me into her garden to take photos of her beautiful flowers. She is a photographer herself! I hope I can visit her again one day because she is such a lovely and kind woman :)

After Vic arrived home, we headed down to the restaurant for dinner. The place is called La Notte, a cozy little Italian restaurant. Every Tuesdays, they have a special deal: All pastas are $7.99 (original prices range from $10-$16). The portions were very generous as well. It is a pretty good place to eat.

Muffins, Cookies, and GDMA love

Yesterday was another volunteer night for me at the GDMA grad show. Lots of booze were served :) Got home last night at around 1am, took a shower, and then passed out so that's why there was no picture for yesterday...but I got them here now!

I was really bored Tuesday night, so I decided that I will make muffins for my mom on Wednesday before I head out to meet up with Terri. I didn't take any photos of me making the muffin but I took a picture of the finished product:

Well, I really wanted to bake something that's orange flavoured...so I made some cookies the next day before heading out for another volunteer event.

So for the GDMA class of 2010, their title for the show is "Take A Closer Look." What it is, is that it revolves around the growth of bugs. I thought it was cleverly thought out and it has great design and illustrations of bugs considering how much bugs scare the crap out of me.

Can you guess what these are?

And of course their grad show wouldn't have been a grad show if they didn't serve their famous mini (dairy free) cupcakes that raised most of their grad funds! They are very delicious and don't worry, these don't contain bugs.

And lastly, yesterday's event was the speaker series with Paula Scher of Pentagram and Eric Karjaluoto of smashLAB. Personally, I thought Paula could have done a better job in her presentation but I'll forgive her this time since she flew into Vancouver in the morning. Eric is amazing though. His talk is very interesting and is kind enough to stay after the event to chat with everyone.

Congrats grads of 2010! Remember us in 2012 please :)
